Appetizers

Some of the best Thanksgiving recipes are listed below, but our database in the Thanksgiving database section include links to many more.
The typical American Thanksgiving dinner includes turkey with dressing, cranberry sauce, some type potato dish (often sweet), beans, and a pie (typically pumpkin, mince, or apple). Usually bread is included (see the cranberry bread recipe below) as is corn.
Of course the main course is traditionally a Thanksgiving Turkey.

Bake at 375 degrees for 50 minutes
Cool ~4 hours.
2.5 cups all purpose flour
1.5 teaspoons baking soda
.5 teaspon salt
.75 cup salted butter, softened
1.5 cups light brown sugar, packed
2 large eggs
3 cups ripe bananas (about 7 medium) mashed (I use more than 3 cups, personally)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
I add cinnamon. You can also add either chocolate chips (I just dump until it looks like enough) or chopped walnuts, or bot
Preheat oven to 350'. Grease two 9 x 5" pans
In medium bowl, combine flour, soda, and salt with a wire whisk
In a large bowl cream butter and sugar w/ electric mixer. Add eggs, banana, and vanilla, and beat at medium speed until thick. scrape down sides of bowl.
add the flour mixture and the (walnuts or choc chips) and the cinnamon, if you wish. Blend at low speed just until combined. do not overmix.
pour batter into prepared pans. bake on center rack of oven for 60 - 70 mins. A toothpick inserted in center should come out clean, and the bread should pull away from the sides. (If you use extra bananas, it will stay extra moist).
cool in pan 10 mins (I never do that). eat rapidly, before anyone else can get to it. :)
I find it easier to double the recipe and make two loaves at once
Sift: 2 cups flour, 1 cup sugar, 1 and 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1 tsp salt (I never use it), and 1/2 tsp baking soda.
Cut in 1/4 cup butter (I use Promise Extra Light margarine sticks- it makes the bread really moist) until mixture is crumbly (I use a mixer to crumble-ize it)
Add 1 beaten egg, 1 tsp grated orange peel (I use a grater/peeler doohickey and grate an entire orange for every two loaves. It is a royal pain in the butt too.), and 3/4 cup orange juice.
mix until mixture is evenly moist.
fold in as many light raisins as you think looks good (the recipe calls for 1 and 1/2 cups, I never measure) and about a half bag of chopped cranberries per loaf.
spoon into a greased 9 x 5 x 3 loaf pan
bake at 350' for 1 hour and 10 mins or until toothpick in center comes out clean. I never use the toothpick test, but I suppose it is a good idea.
Cool out of pan on a wire rack.
keep stored in aluminum foil, unless you eat it all before it cools.
Cook cranberries until all popped. Add 1 c. sugar after cooked. Squeeze juice from orange into cranberries-leave orange peel in until serving.
